Seminar Views & Recommendations

The following points were raised by, and agreed upon, by those attending the Bundoran seminar. These points were forwarded to Central Office, The board of Managment and The National Youth Committee.

Public Image of PTAA

  1. Definition needed for the work of PRO's so that their role on committees can be expanded.
  2. All members need to be encouraged to wear their pins at all times.
  3. Media could be further used to our advantage. ( Advertisement on Bulletin boards in public places)
  4. Promotion at National level needed.
  5. Message should be forwarded to "Be Proud to be a Pioneer".
  6. Tax Break suggested for pioneers.

Communication

  1. There is a communication breakdown within the association itself.
  2. Better use should be made of e-mail facilities.
  3. List of e-mail addresses should be available.
  4. Better communication needed between all councils.
  5. Head office not receiving mail??
  6. Contact list of centre secretaries must be freely available and updated regularly.
  7. If manpower in a local centre is poor, turn to neighbouring centre for assistance. Organise joint activities.
  8. Need to work more closely with other agencies. Eg. DIDG
  9. Lobby local TD's to ensure the National Alcohol Policy is implemented in their area.
  10. Encourage each club or workplace to create their own alcohol policy.

Pioneer Activities

  1. All pioneer activities should be advertised at local and national level.
  2. Each local centre should run at least one activity per month eg. Cinema.
  3. Training needed for leaders.

Website

  1. Should be promoted better in schools and colleges.
  2. Should include a list of Provinces, Diocese, Regions and Centres, and Map of same.
  3. Gradam should be advertised on the web, application form should be available to download.
  4. Seminar applications should be available on web.
  5. Vital that information is provided for the web from the ground, all committees should elect a website officer to gather information for website and forward it to Ray.
  6. Website needs to be updated at least weekly.
  7. Assistance should be given to Ray by National Youth Committee.
  8. All PTAA events/meetings should be advertised on web.
  9. List of contact e-mail addresses needed.
  10. Better use should be made of the discussion forum, needs to be advertised among pioneers and non-pioneers.
  11. Provincial committees should elect website officer to co-ordinate information.

The Gradam Award

  1. A more detailed report back is needed, illustrating why centre lost marks.
  2. Suggestions should be made for improvements ie. What other centres have done.
  3. Lot's of centres do not know about the Gradam.

Magazine

  1. Gormanston article only half page, not adequate.
  2. Youth section needs to be revamped.
  3. Back page advertisement for pioneer events is gone, why?
  4. Youth should compile the youth section, could the National Youth Committee have a role to play?
  5. More photos of youth activities should be published.
  6. Pioneer spy should be expanded.
  7. Should feature competitions, Prizes: cds, concert tickets, sponsorship for seminars.
  8. Could include film reviews.
  9. Published items should be relevant at the time.
  10. Personal achievement photos and articles on famous pioneers.
  11. Universal appeal needed, should attract pioneers and non-pioneers.
  12. Obituaries sent in not published for 2 months- too late!!!
  13. Deadline 3 months is ridiculous, 1 month in advance would be better, no one wants to read old news.
  14. One third of November issue on foreign activities, need to concentrate on home activities.
  15. More promotion needed to sell magazine among non pioneers.
  16. Same points made all the time yet no changes are being made.
